Raspberry Pi & IACBOX

January 29th, 2020

The new year is already a few weeks old, but we are not done yet with reflecting on 2019 - for this reason, you will find an annual review of WiFi4EU in our blog and a document prepared by us on the requirements of the EU Commission for public WiFi in the my.iacbox Partner Portal. Meanwhile, our first Silver Surfer edition was rolled out in Germany, we are happy to congratulate our partner. Furthermore, read below what Raspberry Pi and IACBOX have in common.

WiFi4EU & IACBOX

Last year, numerous vouchers were distributed as part of the WiFi4EU project; the first municipalities have already completed the WiFi setup. Find a brief review of the year in our blog.

With IACBOX it is easy to fulfill the project requirements, there are just a few things to consider. We've dug through the regulation a few times and concentrated the relevant points for you in a document. You can find it in the my.iacbox Partner Portal under Downloads.

Silver Surfer edition takes off

The first IACBOX Silver Surfer edition was rolled out in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany last week. With the baby boomers, an increased need for mobile Internet access moves into senior citizens' residential facilities, so we are pretty sure that more will follow soon. In the first Silver Surfer location, around 60 rooms, common facilities and the cafeteria were equipped with WiFi Internet access. The barrier-free login page was already put into operation with V19.0. The residents are happy to have fast and convenient online access, and the responsible staff are particularly pleased with the simple management of existing and new users.

Small, smaller Raspberry Pi

What do Raspberry Pi and IACBOX have in common? For the first time, our technicians have succeeded in porting the IACBOX to the ARM platform. But let's start from scratch - how did it come about? The ARM port has been on our minds while the ARM market picked up speed, and since the Raspberry Pi 4 combines for the ARM hardware in terms of size, price and power consumption, the time was right. As for the sales team, a portable all-in-one IACBOX for presentations off-site - small, inexpensive and equipped with everything you need incl. WiFi - also came in handy. In the picture below you can see our prototype with its own IACBOX housing and heat sink. With a dimension of just 148 x 64 x 45 mm (L x W x H) it is very convenient.
